The Curious Curate is the third and final episode of the second season of Agatha Raisin. The episode was written by Chris Niel and directed by Audrey Cooke. It aired January 28, 2019 on Acorn TV.

The episode is based on the Agatha Raisin book of the same name.

There’s a dishy new church curate in town and attendance at Sunday service has never been higher... much to Sarah’s chagrin. But all is not angelic in sweet happy Carsely as murder rips through the heart of the village. Will all of Agatha’s friends be safe and could one of them have been driven to murder?

Carsely is buzzing with excitement at the arrival of hot new curate, Tristan Delon. Temporarily taking the place of Jez whilst he’s away, the church pews are suddenly packed to the rafters with adoring fans. However, one villager who is definitely not joining the fan club is Sarah Bloxby, appalled at the way Tristan has turned her husband’s beloved church into a pop concert.

Desperate to win her over, the ever-charming Tristan invites Sarah to dinner at his lodgings that evening... but little does he know this would in fact be his last supper as Sarah is shocked to find him murdered the very next morning– and in her own vicarage!

As Sarah becomes a possible suspect, the gang rally around her... forcing Agatha and James to try and work together. But with Charles still seemingly on the scene, James is more than uncomfortable getting involved in a potential love triangle and decides to keep his distance. They begin to look into Tristan’s past, and soon find that he was far from the saint he would have had everyone believe him to be. In his wake he left a path of destruction, manipulating and blackmailing a string of men and women, from the village jam maker to a philanthropic millionaire, and any one of them with enough motive to kill Tristan.

The gang begin to work on narrowing down the list, until an unintentionally bad steer to the police from Agatha leads to a local villager becoming the next victim.

After her blunder, Agatha is ready to turn her back on investigating for good, leaving Sarah feeling even more helpless as she is now in the frame for two murders.

Desperate to help his dear friend... as well as protect Agatha... James throws himself into the investigation, whilst love rival Charles is away being somewhat distracted by a beautiful divorcée. James soon ends up unknowingly putting himself directly into harm’s way and making a narrow escape when another villager is killed in front of him! The close call puts Agatha firmly back on the investigation, determined to clear Sarah’s name and protect her friends... and loved ones.

A drunken revelation at the annual Carsely Village duck race puts Agatha hot on the murderer’s tail, but it soon becomes clear this killer doesn’t plan on giving up without a fight...
