The Fairies of Fryfam is the second episode of the second season of Agatha Raisin. The episode was written by Chris Murray and directed by Matt Carter. It aired December 24, 2018 on Acorn TV.

The episode is based on the Agatha Raisin book of the same name.

In a desperate attempt to avoid her ex-lover, James Lacey, whose return to Carsely is imminent, Agatha escapes to the remote and seemingly idyllic village of Fryfam. But it isn’t long before Agatha’s nose for trouble ensnares her in a maelstrom of jealousy and dangerous liaisons, when all is not as it seems in this eerie forgotten village.

Hearing that James is due back in Carsely any moment, Agatha takes herself away to the idyllic village of Fryfam, under the pretence of needing the solitude to write her debut novel. Struggling to find inspiration for said novel, Agatha is quickly distracted by odd flashing lights in her garden.

Spooked, she heads off to the pub and is introduced to local landlady and village favourite, Rosie. Agatha starts to realise that the whole village is obsessed with fairies; local legend has it that they live there and protect the villagers... one thing’s for sure, Agatha doesn’t feel very ‘protected’ when she returns to the cottage to find an effigy of herself and a note telling her to leave the village alone.

Hearing that she’s somewhat of an investigator, Agatha is approached by Lucy Trumpington-James, who wants Agatha to investigate her husband Tolly, who she’s convinced is having an affair with Rosie. Agatha heads to their manor house where she finally finds a welcoming face in the village courtesy of Mrs. J the cleaner... sadly the same can’t be said of the rude and obnoxious Tolly. After meeting him, Agatha immediately decides to help Lucy out.

Agatha’s much longed-for peace is short lived when Charles, bored of an Agatha-free Carsely, comes to join her. With his insistence, they decide to investigate the fairies... but their investigation skills turn to far more serious matters when Tolly is found dead!

After local policeman DCI Hand somehow finds a painting stolen from Tolly’s house and the possible murder weapon in Agatha’s cottage, the pressure is on for Agatha and the gang to find the real killer and prove Agatha’s innocence before anyone else gets hurt...

Much to DCI Hand’s disappointment, the police lack enough evidence to hold Agatha and she is soon released, under the strictest instructions from Hand to stop meddling. Agatha promises she will, and stays true to her word... for a minute or two... before pursuing the case, following DCI Hand as her prime suspect.

Just as they start to think they’re making headway, the gang is thrown off kilt when one of their suspects is found brutally murdered.

Now on the hunt for a suspected serial killer, Agatha is more focussed than ever on the case... but knowing that the killer was so keen to frame her, Agatha knows that she needs to be more careful.

It quickly becomes apparent that many of her new neighbours harbour dark secrets that they do not want Agatha to expose, but which one of them is the murderer? As the net closes in, can Agatha find and prove who the killer is before she herself becomes the next target?
