Agatha Raisin: As the Pig Turns is the fourth and final episode of the third season of Agatha Raisin. The episode was written by Chris Murray and directed by Matt Carter. It aired February 24, 2020 on Acorn TV.
The episode is based on the Agatha Raisin book of the same name.
Synopsis[]
After a turbulent few weeks Agatha is determined to move on with her life and put the past firmly behind her. However, her plans are quickly derailed when a gruesome discovery leaves all of Carsely fearing for their safety.
Plot[]
Ever since Agatha and James’ break up tensions have been running high amongst the gang as they try to put the past behind them. When Agatha receives a fine for dangerous driving from an over-zealous police officer it proves the final straw. Warning him that he’ll be sorry, she returns to the cottage in a foul mood. Only the thought of a relaxing trip to the local winter fayre helps calm her down.
Whilst everyone is busy enjoying the fayre, Bill’s preoccupied over the fact he hasn’t spoken to Toni since their kiss and that the moment may be passing them by. When Roy overhears him turning to Charles for relationship advice, it isn’t long before the Cotswolds two biggest flirts find themselves acting as Bill and Toni’s unofficial love gurus. As they gather round for the big unveiling of the hog roast, Bill introduces Agatha to his colleague PC Tulloch, who's been helping him investigate a spate of thefts. Everyone is left aghast when the cover is removed from the hog roast to reveal a tattooed human torso, rather than the succulent hog they were expecting.
As Wilkes struggles to control the pandemonium that breaks out, Agatha spots a woman trying to slip away unnoticed from the crowd. Trailing her to a nearby house, Agatha’s suspicions are confirmed when she sees the woman breaking into the house. Confronting the woman, Agatha learns that the house belonged to Gary Beech, her ex-husband and that it was his tattooed torso on the hog roast.
Demanding to know why she’s ransacking the house, instead of telling the police what she knows. The woman confesses she knew he was mixed up in shady business, but without proof was too scared to tell anyone out of fear what may happen to her. Never one to be deterred from solving a crime, Agatha promises to help her uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang have had little luck finding any leads. Partly due to Toni and Roy’s infatuation with two hunky brothers who work at the fayre. Their obsession swooning after the two brothers quickly leads them into trouble when a plate of hash cakes goes missing amongst the fayre patrons. Suddenly finding themselves facing a horde of stoned patrons, Toni and Roy are forced to take matters into their own hands to restore order.
When Wilkes lets Bill take charge of the investigation it puts him on a collision course with Agatha, as the two friends find themselves competing to solve the case. When a second body and a coded diary are found it’s clear that whatever Beech was involved in runs deeper than they first thought possible.
