Fred Griggs was a recurring character in the Agatha Raisin book series.

He was Carsely's conscientious police constable, known for often being first on the scene when a crime was reported but having little to do with actually investigating any crime.

Biography[]

Fred's typical police duties involved looking for stolen cars in the tourist season and charging the odd drunken driver.

However, Fred was first to the scene when Doris Simpson reported the death of Reginald Cummings-Browne at the deceased's residence. Although not adept with death investigations, he quickly recognised the signs of poisoning on Reg's corpse and ensured no one disturbed the body. As more police and detectives arrived, Fred was positioned outside the house to stand guard and ward off any questions from the public, who had began to turn up following the end of the church service across the road.

He later passed on reports of a woman matching Barbara James's description throwing faeces at Agatha Raisin's windows to DC Bill Wong for him to investigate.

When Bill happened upon Agatha after she had been attacked on her bicycle, Fred was called to block off the road where the attack took place. (BOOK: Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death)

Having met Jimmy Raisin in the village, Fred raced to stop Agatha's wedding to James in order to prevent her from committing bigamy. (BOOK: Agatha Raisin and the Murderous Marriage)
