- "The root of poison hemlock looks a good bit like parsnip"
- ―DCI Wilkes to Agatha
Hemlock is a plant that is highly poisonous if ingested. It is often mistaken for parsely or parsnip due to its leaves and roots, respectively. A strong dose of hemlock can cause symptoms similar to inebriation, loss of balance, slurring, paralysis of vocal chords and limbs.
Fred Instick had a secret hemlock farm in order to supply the plant to local pagans for use in their riutals. Fran Tamworthy stole some from Fred and used it to poison her mother. (Agatha Raisin: Kissing Christmas Goodbye)
