Biography[]

Television series[]

Season 1[]

James joined a local ramblers' group along with rich recent arrival Mary Fortune, whom he became close with. He later took Mary to the village's charity film night hosted at Charles Fraith's house. When rambler Jessica Tarnick was murdered on Charles's property the next day, Agatha enlisted James' help to solve the murder. She convinced James that they should pose as a married couple and go undercover in the victim's rambling group. The pretence proved tricky to keep up in the tiny Cotswolds community; particularly for James, who had just started to date Mary. (TV: The Walkers of Dembley)

Along with many of the Carsely locals, James was not impressed with the village's new bell ringing group who were practising often ahead of an upcoming visit from the bishop. James, along with Mary, later joined the group following the death of Amanda Ballard. (TV: Hell's Bells)

After the news of Parish Council chairman Robert Struthers' death, James and Mary teamed up to investigate the potential murder due to James' past connection with the deceased. When a second body was found in the village, Agatha enlisted Gemma's help to find the killer before James and Mary. However, Mary's competitive nature quickly emerged as the two pairs raced to solve the case. Mary and James became rather unpopular among the Ancombe locals as a result of Mary's brash and blunt behaviour when questioning suspects. (TV: The Wellspring of Death)

Season 3[]

After the success of his first book, James wrote a second book which documented the English Civil War. Whilst writing the book, James agreed to speak to Carsely's historical society about the civil war. (TV: Agatha Raisin & the Deadly Dance)
